First Church Network for care and support for PLWHA formed

Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): On August 18, 20 representatives of various churches of Dimapur formed the Churches Network for Care & support of PLWHA at a meeting held at the NEDHIV Conference Hall. The Committee was the result of the same churches by the NEDHIV Church Network Mission.

NEDHIV Director, Fr. Joe Ngamkhuchung, highlighted the background for the need of the committee formation for PLWHA with special reference to the infected widows and orphans.

Jacinta, Project Manager for Care and Support for PLWHA project, explained the current scenario of PLWHA widows, children and orphan children in touch with the organization and their immediate needs to be addressed. She further mentioned that the churches need to intervene with PLWHA for spiritual support from the NGO daily activities.

After thorough discussion the 1st ever “Church Network for Care & Support Committee” in Dimapur was formed. N.Shitaljeet Singh (retired from police dept.) from Meitei Church was unanimously elected as convener for Church Network for Care and Support, Dimapur. The convener will work hand in hand with the NEDHIV Church Network Coordinator.

A press note issued said that, the committee in its discussion, decided to identify peer volunteers for care and support and train them for undertaking full fledged activities. The Network will initially focus on training of Peer Volunteers for Care and Support and visits to the NEDHIV Care Centre for prayers. The members will be updated of the network activities through monthly newsletter.

The success of new venture was largely due to the tireless effort of Pastor Yanger, NEDHIV Church Network Coordinator. The meeting began with an invocation prayer by Amenli, Associate Women Leader of Sumi Town Baptist Church and concluded with benediction by Chingham, of Phom Baptist Church.
