First DBCK Graduation Day: NU VC urges graduates to grow in character

Kohima, July 8 (MExN): Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) celebrated its first graduation ceremony (2015-18 batch) at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School hall here on July 7.  

The college celebrated the accomplishments of 135 BA graduates with grandeur amidst the dignitaries, governing body members, staff, students and their parents, informed a press release from the college.  

Prof. Pradeshi Lal, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University in his address as the chief guest expressed happiness with Don Bosco institutions, the release said. He congratulated the toppers, graduates and faculty for their contribution in the successful pass percentage.  

He stated there are three kinds of people in the world – “the first category take on initiatives due to fear that it may fail, the second category of people take up initiatives but give up due to hurdles, and the third category of people they take up initiatives and they don’t give up until the goal is achieved.” 

Don Bosco institutions, he said, fit into the third category of people; they never give up until the mission is achieved.   He further urged the graduates to grow in character. “What makes the nation great is the character of its citizens. The character of the citizens comes from the quality education imparted in the educational institutions,” the Vice Chancellor stated.  

He wished the graduates to be citizens of noble character, adding “you have a challenge before you; we are living in a disturbed area, it is up to us to transform it into peaceful area. Be problem solvers than problem creators. Respect your culture and make its values globally recognised.”  

He advised the students to share their resources with the less privileged, especially with the villagers and provide medical help whenever required. “Where there is a will, there is way. The way you desire you will go. Always have a diamond determination until your goal is achieved,” he urged.  

Prof. Lal also emphasized on the importance of good communication skills saying it is the need of the hour. He advised students to be good managers and maintain a balance between their professional and personal lives. He further suggested students to be global citizens contributing their technical knowledge for the betterment of the society and emphasized on the human skills required to be a good engineer.  

Meanwhile, the principal of the college in his graduation report stated that after three years of its journey, the current strength of the faculty has reached 17 with 7 of them having Doctoral degrees. He mentioned that the students of DBCK have brought laurels by bagging 2 University Gold Medals in the first batch. He also stated the college has been recognised by UGC with 2f status given to it.  

Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria SDB, Provincial Salesian Province of Dimapur in his special address mentioned the outstanding contributions of Don Bosco institutions to education in India and across the world. He appreciated that DBCK is one of the institutions that reflect the vision of the founder. He further congratulated students, management and faculty and also appreciated the performance of the college in the recent university exam.  

Manikho, who spoke on behalf of the graduates, thanked the management and faculty for mentoring them in the last three years, providing opportunities for growth. He encouraged his fellow graduates to climb higher in life and achieve great things for DBCK.  

The college conferred medals and mementos for the department toppers, while the Vice Chancellor distributed convocation certificate and mementos to 111 students who were present at the ceremony.  

Vice President Rev. Fr. CM Joseph SDB delivered the welcome address and Dr Adenuo said the vote of thanks.
