Zunheboto, April 20 (MExN): Lizu Naghuto Village Council under Zunheboto Block conducted the first ever women only Gram Sabha at Zunheboto district at Lizu Naghuto village council hall on April 19.
The programme was initiated as part of the Gender Friendly Village under the Project for Creating Clusters of Model Gram Panchayat to achieve holistic and sustainable development through institutional strengthening of Gram Panchayats and enablement of quality GPDP across India, Coordinated by the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Ministry of Rural Development (MoPR) in convergence with District level Center for Women (MSK), Women Cell of Zunheboto Police station and Sakhi One-Stop Center.
A press note stated here that the resource persons for the Gram Sabha were Ikali Wokhami, Women Welfare Officer, District level Centre for Women-MSK, Kiyepu District Coordinator, Mahila Shakti Kendras, Kengbame UBSI, OC Women Police Station Zunheboto and Alovini Yeptho, Central Administrator, Sakhi-OSC Zunheboto. During the program, Ikali Wokhami spoke on the financial and political empowerment of women with special reference to the Zunheboto district. Kiyepu gave an introduction to different schemes and programs for women's welfare and empowerment. Meanwhile, Kengbame covered topics including women's safety, sexual harassment, and gender stereotyping. Alovini Yeptho spoke on services provided by Sakhi One-Stop Center.
The Gram Sabha conducted a general discussion on issues and challenges faced by the women in the village. And the discussion led to the formation of the women grievance cell to address the women's issues and help them in getting legal advice.
Toniho Zhimo, Hd GB gave the welcome address and Abokali Yepthomi, Associate Pastor Youth presided over the Gram Sabha, and the program ended with the vote of thanks by Yenito Zhimo, Village Council Chairman.
