First hospital in Nagaland is 100 yrs

Mokokchung, October 5 (DIPR): Impur Christian Hospital (ICH) the first hospital in Nagaland, celebrate its 100 years of existence today (5th Oct.2012).

ICH was started as a dispensary in 1912 by the American Missionaries, with Dr. James R. Bailey as the first doctor, which later on was upgraded to a 30 bedded hospital in 1943. The hospital was looked after by the Council of Baptist Churches North-East India (CBCNEI) under the guidance of Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) after the American Missionaries left Impur.

Rev. Dr. A. K. Lama, Gen. Secy. CBCNEI in his speech said that one of the biggest crises today is human resource in medical field saying that dedicated doctors and nurses are becoming less in numbers in many hospitals. Lama mentioned that education and medical professions were known as noble but today it has become commercialize by which the morality and the ethical commitments in the hospitals has gone down that needs to be rectified.

Taking an example of the inception of the ICH as a miracle, Lama said if miracles happen in the past it can also happen today. He called upon the church and the medical ministries to have faith and to dedicate themselves so that their ministries would rise up to a miracle. 

Earlier the Centenary Monolith was unveiled by Rev. Dr. A. K. Lama and Centenary Souvenir was released by Rev. Dr. Imti Lkr. Executive Secretary, ABAM, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, Rev. Katie Lkr, International Ministries (ABC), Dr. Molusen and Dr. Esther, Medical Superiendent, Jorhat Mission Hospital also brought centenary greetings. Welcome speech was delivered by Dr. S. S. Aka, Chairman Administrative Committee ICH while Impur Baptist Church and Alempang Baptist Church Choir presented special songs.
