Official with winners of 1st Inter School Chess Tournament held at Gaili.
Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The Government Middle School Gaili hosted the 1st Inter School Chess Tournament under Ngwalwa Circle of Peren district on August 22.
The event saw an impressive turnout of 49 participants who engaged in an exhilarating one-day Rapid Chess tournament, all experiencing the dynamic spirit of the game.
It was organized by the Senior SDEO Peren under the aegis Nagaland Chess Association. The tournament was designed to provide young minds with an opportunity to shine beyond classroom walls, encouraging them to develop strategic thinking through the intellectually stimulating game of chess. Our goal is to offer every budding talent a platform to explore, grow, compete, and excel in sports—paving a path that could lead them to heights of success like the renowned Grandmasters and World Champions, who themselves began with humble beginnings such as ours.
Teams from Government Middle School Gaili, Government High School Ngwalwa, Springfield School Ruzhaphema Block III, and Government High School Heningkunglwa participated.
The tournament was directed by Chiheiding Haikube, Head Teacher of GMS Gaili, with Mengise Haikam, Senior National Arbiter, as Chief Arbiter. They were supported by ten highly teacher-arbiters. Competition was conducted in a Swiss league format spanning 7 rounds, with each player allotted 15 minutes and an increment of 5 seconds per move, ensuring a fair and competitive environment.
The best-performing and champion team was awarded to GMS Gaili, celebrating their outstanding collective achievement.
The top three winners received cash prizes, medals, and certificates, while those ranked fourth to tenth were honored also awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
