Considered to be ‘the youngest and the first Khelo India construction project’ for a football ground, completed with an estimated amount of Rs 5 crore, was inaugurated at Lakhuti village, Wokha district on December 16. The inauguration programme was graced by Advisor of Youth Resource and Sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung as special guest.
The chief guest unveiled the plaque and the dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev Ezanbemo Odyuo, Pastor, Lakhuti Baptist Church.
In his address, Advisor Keoshu Yimkhiung stated that ‘this Khelo India project is marked as the youngest and the first Khelo India construction project to be completed on time and inaugurated in the state.’
He attributed its success to Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan and appreciated him for coming up with such big initiative for his people and envisioning the ground as a blessing for the young generation and a source to produce a lot of talented players.
While highlighting on sports, Yimkhiung stressed that Naga people only focuses on season tournaments which is of no use in the long run. He urged for the upliftment of Naga youths in sports as there are lots of Naga youths who are talented in sports, while informing the department’s training academy to invite talented youths to audition during the talent hunt of sports and to be professional trained from the training academy.
The Advisor concluded by underscoring the rise of women in various fields, predicting their future dominance in the state.
Advisor Mhathung Yanthan in his speech remarked that ‘this day is an historic and significant day for the people of Lakhuti Village.’ He reminded the gatherings that “Lakhuti is the second village and one historic village among the Lotha area. Lakhuti Village was the first to embraced Catholic denomination in the Lotha Area. And with the existence of Catholic Christianity along with Baptist, the Lakhuti Village co-exists harmoniously and progressed a lot with the help of the catholic institutions.”
Yanthan urged the villagers to take ownership and maintain the football ground while encouraging cooperation with the government for maximum benefit from various schemes through hard work and honesty.
Lakhuti Village Council, Chairman, Mhonthung Yanthan delivered the welcome address, Director YRS, Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS said the vote of thanks. Presentations were made by Lakhuti Citizen’s Forum, KN Mhonthung Lotha. Lakhuti Eloe Ekhung performed a traditional song.
