First Kohima District Childline Advisory Board meeting held

Kohima, February 18 (DIPR): The first Kohima District Childline Advisory Board meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima Rovilatuo Mor, IAS who is also the Chairperson of the Kohima District Childline Advisory Board at DC’s Conference Hall on February 18.  

The Kohima District Childline Advisory Board has been constituted with Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, IAS as Chairperson and the following persons as members: SP, Kohima; Administrator KMC; Chief Medical Officer, Kohima; District Education Officer, Kohima; Assistant Commissioner of Labour, Kohima; District Child Protection, Kohima; Divisional Engineer, BSNL Kohima; District Public Relations Officer, Kohima; Chairman Child Welfare Committee, Kohima and CHILDLINE, Kohima.   In the meeting, the Centre Co-ordinator for CHILDLINE Kohima, Dr. Vezo Kapu gave a PowerPoint presentation on the introduction of the CHILDLINE 1098 toll free, which is a nation 24-hours free, phone emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection.   The CHILDLINE is supported by the Union Minister of Woman and Child Development and links State Government, NGOs, Allied System and Cooperate Sector. Dr, Vezo informed that the CHILDLINE 1098 (Night & Day) Centre have been set all over the North Eastern State with one centre each in Kohima and Dimapur districts in Nagaland State. He said, one may dial 1098 or call 08119019419 whenever a child is seen in distress, missing, abused, runaway, needing medical assistance, child labour, street children, and Differently-abled children or for all kinds of children in need of care and protection.   He also informed that one will get connected to a CHILDLINE Centre after dialling 1098 (Night & Day) where the CHILDLINE Team will rush to the child within 60 minutes and provide rehabilitation or attend to the child’s requirement and transferred the child to a district based partner.   Dr. Vezo also highlighted on the agenda and future expectation of Childline, proactive action taken by the State Government in constituting Advisory Board in State and District level, Childline Major Achievements and its graphical representation of Data from April to December 2015 and the activities carried out during the Childline Dosti Campaign held last year.   In this regard, The DC appreciated the District CHILDLINE Team for their activities and services being carried out so far and expressed his concerned to create awareness on the activities, responsibility and involvement of each member in this Board. On the requirement of recovery van for CHILDLINE Centre Kohima raised by the Centre Co-ordinator and supported by the Chairman CWC, the DC noted the matter to take up and meanwhile advised the team to contact the Administration or the Police whenever it requires before the procurement of the vehicle.
