First Pencak Silat at Nagaland Olympic culminates

72 participants from 6 districts participated in the event

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): The first Pencak Silat event at the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2024 held at Immanuel Hall, Y. Zhimo Colony Dimapur concluded on February 16.

At the closing ceremony, special guest Keoshu Yimchunger, MLA & Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports the participants of Pencak Silat will be the story maker of the discipline if they keep their focus on the game and play diligently. While encouraging the athletes to keep on improving in their respective disciplines, he said games and sports are a potential industry which can provide employment to the athletes. 

Yimchunger also added that under the leadership of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the department is focusing on promoting sports in Nagaland and that under the new sports policy, the sport industry is growing. He therefore encouraged the athletes to take advantage of such events and policies. He said that Naga youths are naturally talented in sports and have the capacity to compete in national as well as international level.  

H. Khehovi Yeptho, Chief Patron of Nagaland Pencak Silat Association and former MLA& Advisor to Government of Nagaland who was the honoured guest highlighted some achievements of the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association which include achieving the Guinness World Record in highest assisted martial arts kick of 14.5ft in the sets of India’s Got Talent. He also said the association has won 97 medals, with 41 gold medals, 18 silver medals and 38 bronze medals respectively while representing Nagaland State in the north-east and national level. 

Altogether, 72 participants from 6 districts participated in the event with 14 technical officials. The winners of the Pencak Silat are:
