Fishery farm school inaugurated at Longjang village

ATMA, Kobulong block Mokokchung inaugurated a Fishery Farm School at Longpong, Longjang village on May 11.

MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 12 (MExN): Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong block Mokokchung on May 11 inaugurated a ‘Fishery Farm  School’ at Longpong, Longjang village  with Meyatoshi Longkumer as the farm school teacher. 

At the inaugural programme, C. Amongla Jamir BTM, ATMA delivered the concept and operation of the farm school. In line with the farm school, a training on pond management and common carp breeding was conducted for achieving remunerative and sustainable aquaculture.  

Resource person, Nekenchang, Assistant Fishery Inspector, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mokokchung said sustainable, productive fisheries and aquaculture improve food and nutritional security, increase income as well improve livelihoods, promote economic growth and protect our environment and natural resources. 

He delved into wide range of topics covering nursery pond, rearing pond, stocking pond, pre-stocking pond, management and stocking pond management. The resource person showed the farmers the method of calculating the quantity of manure and lime to apply on the pond. Later, measuring of the pH level in the pond using pH test strips was demonstrated.

Farmers attending the tranining were also provided with pH test strips and lime by ATMA, Kobulong block. Altogether 21 farmers along with ATMA staff attended the program.

In another program, a group of 10 women farmers, Navy was mobilized into a Food Security Group (FSG). The mobilization of Navy FSG is aimed at helping the farmers support their farming households through activities such as animal husbandry, kitchen gardening, poultry, bee-rearing, mushroom cultivation etc.
