DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15 (MExN): Five persons were arrested in Dimapur for armed robbery last week. The kind of robbery the gang committed rather differed in style and execution from the usual bank robbery or highway holdup. The modus operandi involved a good dose of sweet-talking winning over the confidence of potential victims and finally applying force.
As per the police, the gang included three members of the GPRN/NSCN and two others said to be civilians, who were arrested from the Agri-Expo area on November 11. Three were identified as ‘Under Secy’ Richard Achumi (30 years), ‘Under Secy (Home) Obeto K. Awomi (35 years), and ‘Major’ Pusheto Aye (38 years). The two civilians were identified as Bendangtoshi Lusangri (24 years) and Mughato Swu (35 years).
The Dimapur police said that the gang would identify and target potential buyers and making contact with a targeted victim over phone. Once a deal was set, they would ask the buyer to come to a pre-designated place where they would rob the buyer at gun point.
A sixth suspect, who did most of the talking and finalised the deal, was evading arrest. The unidentified suspect was said to have used his “networking” skills to locate potential buyers, the PRO said.
Earlier, in August, the gang had robbed one person of Rs. 6 lakhs after the victim was lured into buying a used truck.
Luck ran out however as the police got wind of their next plan. The PRO said, “We received credible input that the same gang was planning another such robbery” resulting in the arrest of the five men on November 11.
The police confiscated one .22 pistol with 6 rounds, 2 vehicles and cash from their possession.
