Five-km marathon in Wokha creates awareness on AIDS prevention

CMO Wokha, DWO Wokha along with participants at the Red Run marathon race held from Zero point to PWD Wokha on Aug 12.

Wokha, August 12 (MExN): District AIDS Programme Control Unit (DAPCU) Wokha and Department of Social Welfare Wokha organized a District Level Youth Fest ‘Red Run’ Marathon Race of 5 kilometers for Red Ribbon Club members to commemorate International Youth Dayon August 12. 

The event is an initiative of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society to create awareness among the youth on HIV & AIDS and drugs abuse, stated a press release received here. 

Dr Zubenthung Kikon, Chief Medical Officer Wokha flagged off the marathon race at Zero Point Wokh which later concluded at PWD colony Wokha. More than 62 Red Ribbon Club members from Witter Theological College Vankhosung, Mt Tiyi College Wokha and Bailey Baptist College Wokha participated in the marathon race. 

James Ezung District Welfare Officer, Department of Social Welfare Wokha, also addressed the participants on HIV & AIDS and drug abuse at the event.

The winners in male category were: 1st- Renjanpemo Patton (Mt Tiyi College), 2nd -Nepuni Mao (Witter Theological College) and 3rd prize-Michael Humtsoe (Mt Tiyi College); Female category: 1st-NzantiLotha (Witter Theological College); 2nd –Senbeni Ezung (Mt Tiyi College) and 3rd -Yanbeni B Kikon (Witter Theological College). 

Cash price of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 was awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd price respectively.

The certificate and cash prize for male category was distributed by Dr Zubenthung Kikon and female category by Dr Zumomo Ovung, Nodal Officer RRC Wokha.
