Despite the numerous changes and efforts to ratify the reservation policy under the Government of Nagaland, one finds it hard to justify the existing Roaster System (framed by the government) and adopted by NPSC every year to implement the reservation policy in the NPSC examination. But it is also utter surprising and unjustifiable to find the inaptness, voicelessness and handicapped on the part of our 9(Nine) Hon’ble elected members of Mon district in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly particularly the Ministers and MLAs in the government. Or is it the apex organisations of the tribe not performing the role of raising important issues concerning the tribes with the elected members?.If so, one most important thing must be the flaws in reservation policy of Nagaland. I assume they are least bothered because their kids and kins must probably be getting education or are educated at par with any category of children in the premier institutes around India and abroad and would be able to compete with any tribes unmindful with the majority of youngsters educated in Mon and Nagaland itself.
Lets come to the fact, in our NPSC examination every year backward tribes are allotted various category of post including the highest post like EAC,DSP etc according to the roaster system adopted by the Government of Nagaland .For instance, Konyak tribe one of the largest tribe in Nagaland with the population of 2,50,671 as per 2011 census gets 1 EAC post every 3 to 4 years exactly like any other smaller tribe like for instance , Phom tribe with the population of only 50,593 and the smallest tribe population wise. This means 2, 50,671 is equal to 50,593 according to the Government of Nagaland by allotting one post each of EAC without realising KONYAK tribe under Mon district is four times populous than Phom tribe of Longleng district or other smaller tribe. And this precious post comes at equal interval as per roaster system! Even if our policy makers are heartless and blind, I wish our bureaucrats could have exercised their brain.
It is true that reservations are not made as per population of the particular tribe or caste and there is no intension to think so on my part too. But in Nagaland everything seems to be possible considering the fact that some of my Sumi friends (excuse me) are finding reservation in Kipheri district too. If this is possible why is the DAN govt. not acknowledging the fact of Konyak being the most populous tribe in Nagaland. Taking instances of Phom tribe here in no way should be taken otherwise and have no negativity about it. It is simply sad to find that public leaders of Konyak tribe are not raising this issue for long time and here we end 5 years in government again. In days to come, The Ministers and MLAs both in government and in opposition must discuss this issue in seriousness for the betterment of our growing educated youth of the tribe. Once again making absolutely clear that there is no intension to bring in enmity amongst reserved tribes, but only trying to project the implication on the biggest tribe of Nagaland.
Talking about reservation in this 21st century may be rebuked by many, but the reasons for necessities and compulsion for reservations amongst the backward tribes of Nagaland are multiple and only those who have human heart of acceptance will acknowledge.
