Newmai News Network Imphal | July 6 Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh said that the State Government of Manipur has taken up various relief measures and immediate steps have been taken to tackle the recent flood situation of the State. This was stated by him today at the press conference held at CM’s Secretariat in presence of Minister for Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandary V. Hangkhanlian and Minister for CAF & PD Karam Shyam. Highlighting the shortages of the daily essential commodities during the flood situation, the Chief Minister assured that 12,000 Metric Tons of rice is available under the CAF and PD department and is ready to be distributed to the general public of the State. Such rice would be made available at Rs 22.53 per kilo to the general public of the State, he added. Mentioning that the flood hit farmers of the State need not to be panic of the situation, N. Biren Singh said that short duration paddy seed varieties which can be harvested in 100 days such as RC Maniphou-12(RCM12) and Maru Taru University-1010(MTU1010) are available for the flood affected farmers of the State. Either paddy seed varieties or the rice seedlings will be available at free of cost to the people, he added. He further said that a total area of 40,000 hectares of agricultural land have been affected viz. 14,079 hectares in Imphal East, 7,700 hectares in Imphal West, 9,000 hectares in Thoubal, 9,210 hectares in Bishnupur and 20 hectares in Urkhul in the recent flood in the State. 20.51 percent of agricultural area has been affected out of the targeted area of 1,95,000 hectares in the State. Transplantation of such short duration paddy seed varieties can be taken upto the month of August, he added. The Chief Minister said that the government would identify and verify the total submerged area affected by the flood in the State soon. On the occasion, of Minister for Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandary V. Hangkhanlian said that certain measures have been taken up by the Agriculture and Veterinary department and mobile team, five Rapid Action Teams of the Veterinary department, headed by two doctors with field assistants have already been set up for treatment and necessary vaccination of the animals in the flood affected areas. Mobile Plant Health camp has been set up for the farmers, he added.
