A flower exhibition, sales-cum-workshop on Floriculture organised by Wosenro Okho was held at Tiyi Town Hall, Wokha on November 4, drawing flower enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and horticulture professionals from across the district.

The event aimed to promote floriculture and highlight its potential as both a source of income and a means of aesthetic enrichment.

Chumbeni Odyuo, District Soil Conservation Officer (DSCO), Wokha, graced the programme as the special guest, while Julie Jungio chaired the event.

In her address, the special guest, Chumbeni Odyuo, emphasised the importance of floriculture as a viable avenue for economic empowerment, particularly for women and rural communities. She encouraged participants to explore commercial flower cultivation, noting that Nagaland’s favourable climate offers great potential for floriculture to thrive.

Delivering greetings, Thungbeni Ngullie lauded Wosenro Okho for its continued efforts in promoting such initiatives and appreciated the enthusiastic participation from the community. She also commended Anuranjan, Skill Officer, for his consistent contributions towards community welfare and youth skill development. “As a flower lover, I feel that without flowers, a home feels incomplete,” she remarked.

Dr Mhalo Lungalung, in her talk, highlighted that many in Wokha are passionate about flowers but often lack awareness about commercialisation, marketing avenues, and beneficial platforms. She said the workshop aimed to bridge this gap by encouraging participants to share knowledge and experiences. She further invited all to take part in the on-spot flower competition scheduled for the following day.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by an evaluation of the flower exhibition and light refreshments.

Later in the afternoon, a workshop on “Importance, Scope and Cultivation Practices of Commercial Flowers in Nagaland” was conducted at the same venue. The session was moderated by Erenpeni Kikon, with Ruth Humtsoe, Horticulture Inspector, Wokha; Dr Mhalo Lungalung, CTO, KVK Wokha; and Anuranjan, Skill Officer, Wokha, serving as resource persons.

The speakers discussed the vast opportunities in commercial floriculture, shared scientific insights on cultivation practices, and encouraged the adoption of sustainable and modern techniques for flower production.
