Wokha, March 12 (MExN): FM 101.8 Megahertz (Tragopan) radio relay centre was commissioned today by Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon (IAS) at Zero Point, Wokha Village.
Commissioning of the relay centre, the DC stated, is another progress for the district. Now the people of Wokha and its adjoining areas will be benefitted through the FM installation, he stated, adding through radio news can be disseminated easily to the remote areas.
“People can listen to radio even when there is no power supply; it also plays a great role by educating the farmers about government schemes and policies,” Manazir highlighted. He therefore called upon the public to cooperate with the broadcasting organization in making their services efficient in the region. He hoped that in near future the relay centre will expand and benefit the educated youth through employment generation, recording of local folk lore, songs and stories.
KV Ramachandran, Deputy Director General (Engineering), Head of Office (HoO), All India Radio, Kohima in his speech highlighted that AIR has been extending its services in the State since 1963 disseminating news and entertainment through local programmes, dialects and FM service. Stating that the people of Wokha will enjoy listening to clear news and songs through the relay centre, he assured to extend longer duration/timing as and when more technicians/engineers are posted.
Mhao Humtsoe, Lotha Hoho Chairman meanwhile thanked the AIR officials for making the project a success in the district. “Today’s commissioning of the relay centre in Wokha will immeasurably benefit the public and the listeners of the channel,” he stated and assured to extend fullest support in making the centre excel in providing service to the people. He also appealed to the authorities concerned to introduce every possible section, namely programme executive, news section, recording facilities in addition to engineering wing.
Er. Mhondamo Ovung, Lotha Hoho General Secretary read out a memorandum addressed to the Minister In-charge, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Delhi, which is to be submitted through the Deputy Director General (Engg.), AIR, Kohima.
Er. Matsang Ao, Wokha FM Tragopan relay centre in-charge meanwhile informed that the station will switch on everyday from 3:00 pm till 9:30 pm. Recorded local dialects news and songs will be transmitted from time to time, and Lotha dialect will be broadcast from 6:10 pm daily from the channel, he added.
Earlier, Rev. Nyanchumo Lotha, Executive Secretary, Lotha Baptist Ekhumkho Sanrhyutsu Wokha invoked prayer at the programme, which was chaired by Jonas Yanthan, News Reader, AIR, Kohima.
Members from Lotha Hoho, Wokha District Entrepreneurs’ Association, SIB, church representatives attended the commissioning programme.
