Focus on linkage and quality: SYMSAC- IX

Marketing linkage and quality produce were the urgent needs that emerged out of the three-day Symposium on Spices and Aromatic Crops (SYMSAC-IX) at SASRD, Medziphema from March 15-17.  

While the farmers followed by exhibitors and suppliers expressed concern about the need for marketing linkages, the buyers had their own share of problems in the form of timely and quality delivery of products.  

These issues were the main points emphasized at the valedictory programme of the three-day SMYSAC-IX. However, the final findings of each report were yet to be compiled and sent to the appropriate authority as each reports presented during the programme were only highlights in nature and indepth reports were yet to be finalized.  

Chief Guest of the valedictory function, Dr. A.K. Yadav, Adviser (NAB) APEDA, GoI, New Delhi in his speech called for a collective effort to provide quality produces on the part of farmers and to facilitate effective market linkages on the part of the appropriate entities. He expressed seriousness about the lack of transport and market linkages for the farmers.  

Famers, exhibitors, suppliers and scientists also shared their experiences on the Symposium. The lists of awardees are:  

Oral Presenters:

* Dr. H.S. Mehta Memorial Award for best research paper (Oral): the award was shared by Dr. MS Shivakumar and Dr. OP Aishwath  

Poster:

* Dr. Alapatri Prasad Rao award for best Research paper (Poster): Dr. V Srinivasan

* Dr. H.S. Mehta Memorial Award for best research paper (Poster): Dr. Mohammed Faisal Perran  

Best exhibitors: 2 winners

* Farmers category: L Holuto Ayemi, ATMA Zunheboto

* Organization Category: NEIDA
