
Guwahati, March 8 (MExN): Connections-2020, the annual meeting of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) North-east chapter, was held on March 7. The meeting discussed at length various issues pertaining to the contemporary media profession, and called upon journalists to focus more on the positive things that have been happening in the North-eastern region for the benefit of readers and viewers both within and outside.
The meeting discussed the need for the media to tell the positive developments in the Northeast, and asked the media fraternity to look at various interesting positive and inspiring stories from the region which most people across the country have not been aware of.
Members present were also of the opinion that IIMC alumni spread across the region can also play a crucial role in this aspect. A number of IIMC alumni, apart from working in various media, are also in various responsible positions in the Civil and Police services across the Northeast.
Members also underlined the need to expand the network of professionally qualified journalists within the region.
While noting that students from different parts of the country are opting to join the North-East campus of the IIMC in Aizawl, the meeting also highlighted that the permanent Aizawl campus of IIMC is nearing completion, and requested the authorities to make it functional from the new academic session.
The meeting, which was presided over by veteran journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap, was attended by senior IIMC alumna and leading tourism entrepreneur Jahnabi Phookan, AIR Guwahati Special Correspondent Manas Pratim Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh IFS officer Pee-Lee Ete, Guwahati-based journalist Manoj Khandelwal and a few others.
Atul Gupta of IndiaNews from New Delhi and Prof Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra of IIMC Dhenkanal campus, who attended the meeting as central IIMCAA observers, also released the souvenir ‘Connections’ published to mark the occasion.
