Focusing families this World Diabetes Day

  Kohima, November 14 (MExN): In observance of World Diabetes Day under the theme ‘The Family and Diabetes’, the Department of Health & Family Welfare in coordination with Horticulture Department organized a programme followed by screening camp on November 14 at the Directorate of Horticulture.   Collaborating health awareness program with Project 72 Hrs, ‘RUN KOHIMA’ - a joint initiative on raising awareness on non-communicable diseases, was also launched during the program. Team leader Project 72 Hrs, Sievituo Solo highlighted on the objective in reaching out to the community through an initiative towards healthy lifestyle practices.   Resource person for the program was Dr. S Neiphrezo, Diabetologist, NHAK who in his short presentation ‘Understanding Diabetes’ stressed on the important measures in understanding the condition and to control and prevent diabetes. He also encouraged people with diabetes to manage their condition so as to lead a healthy life and go for regular check-ups which goes a long way in preventing and fighting the disease.   Screening was done for officers and staff of Directorates of Horticulture, Land Resources Development and Water Resource where a total of 40 healthy office goers were screened for Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and Body Mass Index. Counseling session for lifestyle modifications and information materials on diabetes were also distributed during the screening.   Earlier State NCD Cell (NPCDCS), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima stated in a press release that the programme was chaired by Jerry Patton, Dy. Director, Department of Horticulture and significance of World Diabetes Day was given by Dr W Nchumbemo Ezung, Joint Director, DH&FW.
