Foot Hill Road: Rengma Hoho seeks Sumi Hoho’s intervention

Tseminyu, August 3 (MExN): The Rengma Hoho today requested the intervention of Sumi Hoho to sustain the Foot Hill Road project as per the “Eight Alignment” and the DPR prepared by the Nagaland PWD (R&B). According to this alignment, the road passes through Rengmapani.

However, Rengma Hoho in a press release stated, Hovukhu village had “derailed” the original alignment of the PWD (R&B), which was also approved by the Nagaland Foot Hill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC).

In a press release issued by its General Secretary, Thanchilo Kath and President, Kenyuseng Tep, Rengma Hoho stated it is unfortunate that “Hovukhu stood in the way of its (Foot Hill Road project) progress despite sincere appeals from NFHRCC for cooperation.”

Quoting Supu Jamir, Convener of NFHRCC, the Hoho pointed out that the PWD (R&B), Dimapur division had brought out two options of road alignment in the Niuland-Rengmapani sector and the Committee opted for the Rengmapani to Old Ralan via Hovukhu. But, the same was rejected by Hovukhu village, it said, resulting in the Committee referring the matter to Western Sumi Hoho.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting was convened on April 22, 2016 to discuss the issue, where it was resolved to invite both Hovukhu village and Western Sumi Hoho on April 25. However, Western Sumi Hoho did not turn up in the meeting, Rengma Hoho added.

Acknowledging that Hovukhu village may have genuine reason for opposing the original alignment, the Rengma Hoho requested the Sumi Hoho as an apex body of the Sumis to intervene so Hovukhu village will follow the original alignment and as per the project report of the PWD (R&B), Dimapur division.
