“Football for peace”: Exhibition match

A historic football exhibition match between Naga legislators /Kohima veterans and Forum for Naga Reconciliation/Naga political groups was played here this afternoon at the Kohima Local Ground under the theme “Football for Peace”. 

The exhibition match aimed to further cement the bond of Naga unity and to strengthen the reconciliation process. In an exciting 70 minutes play, the Naga legislators /Kohima veterans defeated FNR /Naga political groups 6-2.

Parliamentary secretary V. Vikheho Swu opened the account for Naga legislators /Kohima veterans in the 14th minute and further increased the tally in the 25th minute by scoring another goal.

Peter Kuotsu, K. Neibou Sekhose, Bendangnukshi and Yambemo scored a goal each for the team in the 46th, 52nd, 53rd and 67th minute respectively.

Kilonser C. Singson, captain of FNR /Naga political groups netted a goal for the team in the 61st minute while Kilonser Puthai added another goal for the team in the 69th minute. 

Both the teams displayed an excellent class of soccer and the match witnessed thunderous cheers from spectators.

The match kick-started after a formal prayer by Rev. K. Luruo, State Chaplain.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, NLA speaker Chotisuh Sazo, home minister G. Kaito Aye, medical minister Imkong L. Imchen, chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir and several other dignitaries also witnessed the match. 

Match officials included Teiso Pienyu (Main referee) with Kesweyie David, Medozevi Punyu and Meyietuo Sachu as assistant referees.
