Kohima, August 3 (MExN): The Angami Public Organization (APO) today said it is not and shall never be puppet to any “government/organization/group/individual etc. no matter how strong and dominant that could be.” The APO’s statement comes in the wake of allegations and counter-allegations, resulting from media reports about the state government seeking the support of civil organizations, in maintaining law and order in Kohima town.
The APO however iterated that it would continue to be a confident partner to all that strive for peace, prosperity and well-being of the society irrespective of tribal, political and ideological holdings.
A ‘public statement’ issued through APO general secretary K Neingunyü Sekhose said the APO was constrained to make its stand clear in the light of the organization’s “pre-eminent role in partnering with the state law enforcing agencies for the projection (sic) and maintenance of law and order situation, particularly in the state capital, Kohima…” The statement said the APO, as “a peoples’ mandated organization, with public sanctity and conscience of morality being the core guide of the organization”, will neither seek nor be under the patronage of any government, organization, group or individual. Irrespective of affiliation and allegiance to any, the APO will never sidetrack or retract from its committed visions and calls, the APO said. “Objective and plural desire will never be the guiding basis of the APO”, the statement assured.
The APO also reiterated that as “a public mandated organization of her community, with embraced societal vision and obligations as its basic embodiment within its defined gifted territorial jurisdiction”, its foremost priorities are to promote and defend ‘interest and well-being’; to uphold peace and forge unity of its fraternity members in particular and the Nagas in general.
The statement reasserted that the APO remains committed to respond to the needs of time. Being an organization, the organization stated, it has been and is serving as an agent and associate that promote peace and harmony for the “dwellers” of the capital town. It would remain “steadfast, independent of the organization being challenged or requested by any in regard,” the APO stated.
