Tuensang, April 5 (MExN): An awareness programme on Forest and Wild Life Conservation was held at Divisional Forest Office, Tuensang on April 3, where the village councils from different villages under Tuensang Division participated along with the staffs.
A press release stated that the programme started with plantation of tree sapling by the chief guest, YM Jami, Conservator of Forest (Northern Territorial circle), Divisional Forest officer Tuensang and Divisional Forest officer, Longleng. Later, the chief guest, in his speech highlighted that every creature in this universe is created with a specific purpose and human beings are created to look after them as guardians and not to harm them.
DFO Longleng, Beizo Suokhrie in his speech reminded that natural resources are blessing from God and how to enjoy the benefits of resources and maintain healthy life. Dr. C. Zupeni Tsanglao, IFS DFO Tuensang delivered the welcome address and urged the gathering to conserve the available natural resources by utilising it in a sustainable way. She also explained the importance of wildlife in maintaining the ecological balance and the provision of Wildlife Act, 1972.
Litem Village Council, Chairman H. Chang narrated the success story about the conservation of Sambhar Deer in their reserve forest and encouraged the other villages to do the same. The programme was chaired by L. Tsingthrise Sangtam, Range officer Tuensang Range and concluded with vote of thanks by Florence Sangtam, Range officer.
