Forgiveness & unity through reconciliation is the only way to move forward: Anthony

New Delhi, August 22 (MExN): Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) organised a felicitation programme for Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray, an NSCN (IM) leader, on August 20 at Nagaland House, New Delhi.  

President of NSUD, Phungshok Khongreiwoshi expressed gratitude on behalf of Nagas in Delhi for the “utmost and highest service” of Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray towards the cause of the Nagas and to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.  

The program was organized with the idea of welcoming back Lieut. Gen. Anthony into the fold of the Naga freedom movement, informed a press release from Chawangbo Chalunmai, General Secretary, NSUD. Anthony was recently released on bail from Tihar jail.  

The Naga Peoples' Movement of Human Rights (NPMHR), All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) expressed their gratitude to Lieut. Gen. Anthony “for his selfless service and dedication to the cause of the Nagas,” the release added.  

NSUD stated that Anthony’s release has renewed hope and instilled peace in the minds of the Naga people.  

Meanwhile, Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray thanked all the civil societies which have been supporting him through protests, seminars, talks, candle light vigil, prayers in churches etc. He also made a special mention of the role of NPMHR in handling his case. However, he equally appreciated the efforts of all the Naga people in releasing him.  

According to the release, Anthony praised God for bringing light during the darkest moments of his life. As a “servant of nation”, he believed in the unity of the Nagas with Christ as the foundation. “To him, forgiveness and unity through reconciliation is the only way to move forward,” the release stated. He further asserted that the future belongs to the youth and the youth must be able to stand united and carry forward the agenda of Naga nation building. He promised to remain faithful to the cause of the Naga solution. He also spoke highly of the hard works and dedication of Late Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah.  

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of NSUD urged the Nagas for ‘One Hope, One Voice and One Goal’.
