Kohima, February 23 (MExN): An incessant thrust on ban of supply, storage, and sale of formalin treated fish notwithstanding extended order, has detected huge quantities formalin laced fish at Bye-Pass Check Gate on February 23.
Nagaland Food Safety Cell in a press release stated that 1700 kg (approx) fish confirmed presence of added formalin was seized and destroyed at Zürüzou, the Kohima Municipal Council dumping site.
A Tata mobile truck transporting fresh fish from Dimapur to Kohima was intercepted at Bye Pass Check Gate by officials of Kohima Municipal Council on February 23.
Samples of rohu, katla, pankaj and prawn were collected and sent to State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) for testing.
The test report from Food Analyst later confirmed the presence of added formalin in the fish, it was informed.
The stock was later seized and destroyed at Zürüzou (KMC dumping site) in the presence of District Administration, Police, KMC officials and Food Safety Officials.
“Inspite of the prohibition order which was extended for a year with effect from December 2018 for a year, banning of fresh fish treated with formalin or any form of preservative and instruction for fish vendors to get sample analysed before sale by Commissioner Food Safety cum Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department,” Food Safety Cell also stated.
