'Formation of factions not in interest of Nagas'

Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): The Naga National Council (Parent Body) has condemned the formation of factions in the Naga homeland and has termed such acts “shameful and mockery to our people and homeland”.

Claiming that a new faction had emerged out of the parent body, a press release from the Information & Publicity Wing of NNC maintained that factional formation without any necessity is “not at all in the interest of the Naga people as a whole at this stage of political crisis in the Naga homeland.”

The NNC pointed to the recent appointment of Gen (Retd) Thinoselie Keyho as President of the NNC (Non Accordist) and rued that it was “very unfortunate” to see another NNC faction emerge at this critical juncture. This shows the “very sorry” state of affairs in the Naga Homeland because of “divisive and opportunistic” stand taken by some section of people, the NNC contended.

The Publicity Wing in its release disclosed that NNC leaders especially from Angami and Chakhesang communities had earnestly appealed and requested the section of people not to form or elect new leaders “for the sake of larger interest of Naga unity”. “In spite of all these efforts this new factional leaders did not listen,” it regretted.
