Former Vice President of Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), B Kadinlungbou, was killed in an accident along the Imphal-Sichar road (National Highway -37) in the wee hours of today.
The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) in a statement said that B Kadinlungbou had served as Vice President and Speaker of the Council on different tenures. LNC said that his sudden demise is a great loss for the Liangmai community, and “the vacuum he left behind will be difficult to be filled”. LNC then shared the grief of the bereaved family members “during this difficult moment.”
Regarding the accident, PIB Defence Wing said that at 2 am on Sunday a TATA Winger van carrying 13 passengers on board fell into a 200 meter gorge near milestone 85 between Awangkhul-1 village and Awangkhul-2 village along NH 37. One of the survivors of the incident reported the matter to the Awangkhul Company Operating Base around 2:15 am, according to a statement from the PIB.
It then sad a quick reaction team of 40 men of Tamei Battalion deployed at Awangkhul Company Operating Base undertook the rescue operation. The vehicle had fallen approximately 200 meters down the road and needed major effort to rescue the survivors. The team tied ropes and other ancillaries to reach the victims who were injured, unconscious and fallen along the course of the vehicle.
After three hours of the rescue operation alongwith Noney Police, 12 passengers were saved. "Mr Kadinglungbou of Tamei died on the spot due to severe injuries. Three survivors were admitted in Noney Battalion unit Hospital and 9 other survivors were admitted to PHC Noney," the PIB informed.
