
Kohima, September 25 (MExN): Kielu Ndang, a former Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), passed away on September 25 after a prolonged illness.
He was elected to the 3rd Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1971 in the by-election from Peren Assembly Constituency and was re-elected in the 1974 general election from the same constituency representing the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Meanwhile, on his own behalf as well as on behalf of the members of the 14th NLA, Speaker Sharingain Longkumer conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members of the departed MLA.
Beginning his career as a teacher, late Ndang later took up leadership roles in civic and social activities, serving as Secretary of the Peren Town Committee and Executive Member of the NNO in the Zeliangkuki area, the Speaker noted.
He was a hard-working and devoted man who worked sincerely for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland, he added.
NPF: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) also mourned the demise and paid tribute to late Ndang as a leader who worked to unite people across tribal lines and strengthened the democratic foundations of Nagaland during its formative years.
“The NPF conveys heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prays for God’s comfort and strength in this time of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) also mourned the demise of one of its senior members and noted that late Ndang was known for his dedication and hard work in serving the people of not just Peren AC and the Zeliang community, but all Nagas in general.
His demise is a great loss to the people of Nagaland and especially to the people of Peren, it noted.
“The Ex-PAN conveys our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Lungchule and the family. May God comfort them during this time of loss. May the departed leader's soul rest in eternal peace!” it added.
