
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): Former MLA, Trinimong Sangtam, who was also a member of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), passed away on February 14 in Tuensang. He was 83.
He was elected Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 52-Longkhim-Chare Constituency in 1987 as an independent candidate.
After finishing his high school from Government High School, Mokokchung, Sangtam studied Theology, and obtained degrees of Bachelor of Theology from Eastern Theological College, Jorhat; Bachelor of Divinity from Serampore College, West Bengal, and Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University, USA.
He worked as a Lecturer at Eastern Theological College, Jorhat for ten years from 1966 to 1976. Later on, he became Member of the Regional Council, Tuensang from 1969 to 1972, and was also Member of the Nagaland Public Service Commission from 1980 to 1986.
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio said that Sangtam was a “God fearing and learned religious man, who served the people with sincerity and devotion in various capacities. His death is a great loss for the people of Nagaland, particularly for the people of Eastern Nagaland. The void left by his death will be difficult to fill.” He further expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
