Er Zale Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resource & Sports, unveiled the foundation stone for an Astro Turf at Rempukong, Ungma, Mokokchung in the presence of Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Mestubo Jamir, Minister, RD and Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Nagaland, & President, Mokokchung Sports Council on December 15.
The Youth Resource & Sports Advisor said that when the government first initiated the Astro Turf project, it was not accepted wholeheartedly, but after the completion of the project, good feedback had been received from the people, especially youngsters.
He also announced the government’s plan to set up more Astro Turfs in six other districts, some of which have been completed, while the rest are ongoing projects.
He thanked the landowners for generously donating the land for the community and society. He also said that the AstroTurf should not only be a football complex, but also a sports complex where various games and sports will be played.
Sharingain Longkumer in his speech said a project of such significance would not have been possible without the help of the government. The Astro Turf will unfold a new chapter for Mokokchung in particular and for the Nagas in general he said. Moreover, he acknowledged and appreciated the generosity of the landowners, without which such an ambitious endeavor would not have been possible.
Alemtoshi Imsong spoke on behalf of the Village Council of Ungma while R Nungshilepden Jamir, also spoke on behalf of the land owners.
