Four LFHSS students among winners of SPARSH scholarship

Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): Four students from Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School (LFHSS) have been selected to receive the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby), informed a press release from the school.  

Altogether, 7 students from Nagaland Postal Division have been selected for the scholarship, including the 4 from LFHSS. The other three winners are one each from Zakiesatuo Memorial School, Kendriya Vidyalaya (Sewak), and Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School.  

The students have been selected on the basis of an Inter-School Written Philatelic Quiz Competition and Philatelic Project works. The philatelic quiz competition was conducted on January 12, 2018 at Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School by the Directorate of Postal Services, Nagaland Division for philately enthusiasts. The written quiz was conducted for students of Grades-VI to IX for various schools under the Dimapur Postal Circle (Nagaland Division). A total of 23 students from 5 schools of Dimapur participated in the event, said the press release.  

The State-wise distribution of the Deen Dayal scholarship under the North-East Circle is – 13 students from Manipur, 7 students from Nagaland, 5 students from Tripura, 3 students from Meghalaya, and 1 student from Arunachal Pradesh. The 29 students from the entire North East had prepared and submitted projects on Philately which were scrutinized and selected for the Scholarship by the Postal Department, according to the release.  

The scholarship will be distributed at 11:00 am on March 20, which will be held through video conferencing. The main function will be held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Communications wherein all the Circles including the North East Circle Office in Shillong will also participate through video conference. The scholarship amount of Rs. 6000/- per student will be credited to their individual Savings Bank Accounts on the same day itself, it was informed.  

The release mentioned that the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India had launched the Philately Scholarship Scheme named the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby) on November 3, 2017 for generating interest regarding philately amongst the students.
