Mangkolemba, August 4 (MExN): A meeting was held recently in Mangkolemba following complaints of selling PDS food grains above the prescribed rate.
A press release from Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (MALT) said that the public of Mangkolemba Town has been complaining for a longtime about the “unreasonable high rate” of PHH and AAY food grains under Public Distribution System (PDS). The price was fixed at Rs. 5 per kg in Mangkolemba Town by the two Fair Price Shops (FPSs). “The reason being the non availability of the Loading & Unloading charges till date from the concerned department,” the release stated.
As a result, on July 31, the Caretaker of Mangkolemba Town Council, all Ward Executive Committees, GBs, MALT, the two FPS owners and the Store Keeper from F&CS department held a joint meeting wherein the various organizations directed the FPS owners to sell the food grains under the PHH and AAY schemes at the government prescribed rate of Rs. 3 per kg henceforth.
MALT on behalf of all the organizations present at the joint meeting has appealed to the department concerned to provide the necessary charges/fees for loading and unloading to the FPS licensed holders who are “sandwiched between the department and the ire of the public.”
In the release issued by its president, Tia Jamir and general secretary, Sentimeren Imchen, MALT asserted, “The organizations in Mangkolemba will not allow selling of the aforementioned items at any rate other than the government/concerned department’s rates in future.”
