A ‘Free Cricket Coaching Camp for Girls’ was organized by District Administration & District Level Centre for Women, Mahila Shakti Kendra (BBBP), Mokokchung from January 18 to 22 Jan at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
A total of 14 aspiring women cricketers attended the training including participants from Mangkolemba and Tuli. The training was given by Talikaba, a BCCI Level-1 Certified Coach.
“A career in cricket is not very difficult if you have the talent and is willing to put on some hard work”, said the head coach. “The Good thing about cricket is that you will get paid for every match- the only thing we need is hard work and sincerity,” he added. Talikaba, also shared his desire to help the girls make a career in physical sports like cricket.
“Pursuing cricket doesn’t necessarily mean you neglect your studies; both cricket and school can go hand in hand,” he said.
The participants at the camp shared their gratitude towards their head coach and the district authorities for organizing such events. “Before this coaching camp, I had the assumption that cricket as a sport was a men’s game,” said Among, one of the participants.
The Head coach further informed that starting Monday i.e. 24th January at 1 pm in Public Ground, Mokokchung he shall be giving out free cricket coaching to anyone wishing to learn.
Moamenla Longkumer, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW, MSK (BBBP), on behalf of the organizer said that the coaching camp was organized to provide best possible training to the aspiring cricketers and nurture their cricketing journey since cricket has more scope for earning a livelihood compared to other sports. She also said that the camp aims to create awareness on girls/women’s social and practical issues such as lack of opportunities and education and also to break the gender stereotype.
