The two-week-long event, which commenced on June 23, saw participation of 219 individuals aged five and above from across the district.

Participants received intensive training across six martial arts disciplines—Kung Fu, Wushu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Judo—under the guidance of a team of instructors comprising Imyuangdang Leo (Karate), Toshimeren (Kung Fu), Metlesh (Muay Thai), and Bendangakum, 4th DAN – NKMAA (Wushu and Judo).

Gracing the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honour, Imkumniba Kichu, Councillor for Youth Resources and Sports, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), lauded the MDMAA for taking the initiative to make martial arts accessible at the grassroots level.

“Martial arts is not merely a physical discipline but a way of life rooted in tradition and values,” Kichu said. Describing the camp as a “meaningful and empowering initiative,” he underscored the role of martial arts in fostering discipline, humility, respect, and mental focus among the youth.

Addressing the participants, he encouraged them to embrace challenges with confidence and perseverance, calling martial artists “shape shifters and tomorrow makers.”

The closing function featured the distribution of medals and certificates to outstanding participants across various age groups, followed by live demonstrations and exhibition matches showcasing the techniques and progress of the trainees. Dr. Sarenti Walling, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) also spoke on behalf of the parents.

Speaking on the occasion, Rongsentoshi Jamir, President of MDMAA, announced that regular martial arts classes will resume following the camp and that the Association plans to host an All-Nagaland Martial Arts Open Championship in December 2025. He expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to promoting martial arts in the district.
