Free piglets distributed to women of New Chalkot

Faculty of COVSC & AH, scientists of ICAR-NDRI-Kalyani and KVK Peren with New Chalkot beneficiaries.
Peren, February 2 (MExN): Fifty piglets with feed and mineral mixture were distributed to women of New Chalkot, Peren district apart from conducting free Animal Health Camp by the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie.
As per a press release from Dr Capt, G Dhanan Jaya Rao, ICAR-NDRI, Eastern Regional Station, Kalyani under the Tribal Sub Plan “Upliftment of Socio-Economic Condition of Tribal People through Integrated Livestock Farming in North-Eastern Hill Region /Eastern Part Of India” had chosen College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie to implement the project in Nagaland for the 3rd consecutive time.
In his presidential address Dr Capt, G Dhanan Jaya Rao, Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie informed women farmers that New Chalkot was chosen for free distribution of piglets due to the remote and backwardness of the village and to improve the economy of the villagers.
He said that NDRI-ICAR, Kalyani continued to choose the College due to consistent success in the previous two times the project was implemented and stressed the importance of proper health care and feeding management of the piglets.
Dr M Karuna Karan, Principal Scientist, accompanied by Dr Mohan Mondal and Dr Amitava Ghosh from ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani briefed the farmers about the project and the requirement of proper care and management of piglets that were distributed to them.
Dr Gunjan Das, Dr Mukherjee and Dr Imtiwati had an interactive session with the farmers on scientific management of pigs along with the scientists of KVK, Peren Dr Babita Devi, Dr James Kikon and Dr Patu Zeliang. Dr Uttarani Maibam and Dr Soya Rungsung as co-ordinators of the project organized the piglet distribution programme.
