Guwahati, January 12 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway continued to maintain steady growth in freight loading and loaded 0.844 MT in December, 2021, informed an official release. This is an increase of 11.9% in comparison to the corresponding period in 2020.
Further, the NFR loaded 7.342 MT during the period from April to December, 2021 as compared to 5.621 MT in corresponding period in 2020. This is an increase of 30.6%, said the press release from NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Guneet Kaur.
Loading of few commodities also increased by a good margin in December, including coal which increased by 62.5%, dolomite by 50.4%, food grains by 18.8%, fertilizer by 280%, container by 57.1% and f miscellaneous commodities by 82.8%, it informed
During April to December 2021, dolomite loading increased by 175.4% in comparison to the same period in 2020, while food grains loading increased by 6.9%. Container, fertiliser and other commodities loading increased respectively by 71.1%, 34.5% and 109.6%.
In a bid to further increase freight transportation volume, several customer-friendly steps have been initiated by NFR including improved completion of developmental works at several stations improve the goods sheds, the release said.
Various works are also taken up at more stations including provision of merchant room and resting room facilities for labour, renovation of goods circulating area, construction of approach road to circulating area, widening of platform to increase the working space for loading/unloading etc, it maintained,
The NFR is also exploring all possible ways to boost the freight loading performance and sustained efforts of Business Development Units (BDUs) at Headquarters and Divisional levels have helped capture new traffic and to boost in freight loading, it added.
