Fresh COVID-19 cases in Assam, Manipur & Arunachal

Guwahati/Imphal/Itanagar, May 28 (PTI): The number of coronavirus cases in Assam rose to 798 after 24 more people tested positive for the disease, state Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.


Fifteen new cases have been reported this morning and nine were detected late on Wednesday night, the minister said.


The number of active COVID-19 cases in Assam now stands at 704, while 87 have recovered from the disease and three have migrated to other states. Four people have died of the disease in the state.


Meanwhile, four more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Thursday, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 55, officials said.


With this, 11 positive cases have been detected in the last 24 hours, a statement issued by COVID-19 Common Control Room said. "All necessary control measures have been put in place," it said.


Meanwhile, a returnee from Mumbai who was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) with COVID-19 was discharged from the facility on Thursday. He has been advised to be in home quarantine. The person had been admitted to the JNIMS on May 14.


Arunachal Pradesh reported its third COVID-19 case after a 19-year-old student, who recently returned to the state from Chennai in a Shramik Special train, tested positive for the disease, a senior official said on Thursday. The student had returned on May 24 and was placed under institutional quarantine, he said. "The person is asymptomatic and has been shifted from a quarantine facility to a COVID care centre. His test reports arrived on Wednesday night, Health Secretary P Parthiban said.
