DIMAPUR, JANUARY 29 (MExN): In yet another political clash at Kangtsung village between supporters of Congress candidate of 21 A/C Tuli, S. Imti and former MLA, T. Tali, claimed the life of one Tsuknungyanger (30) and left several injured. The deceased, Tsuknungyanger, son of Chubaomen of Aitlenden ward is said to have received one bullet injury in the stomach. The victim reportedly died on his way to Tuli town. While the police confirmed the clash, they were unable to give details of the case as it is still ‘under investigation’ but the Congress committee of Kangtsung village unit has accused the supporters of T. Tali for the killing.
A press release from the president of the unit, I. Onen Lemdor stated that at around 6:00 am, while the public of Kantsung village were in “peaceful movement”, supporters of the former MLA, “with sophisticated arms approached to the village and randomly shot at sight resulting in the killing…”. Congress candidate of the constituency, S. Imti Jamir also stuck more or less to the same story saying that Tali’s men had “simply came and killed one of our men”.
The village unit Congress also accused one Yangersenba, son of Imtiyaba, ex-Pastor for the killing. It further alleged that T. Tali and his party have so far killed three innocent citizens of the village ‘in the name of politics.’ “The evil deeds of T. Tali and his regime should be condemned by all right-thinking citizens and killer should not be given any place in a civilized society”, stated the release received here.
However, the former MLA Tali who is in Dimapur, said that his men were not involved. Tali said that according to reports from his men, there had been a commotion among themselves and some of Imti’s own supporters had misfired which had killed the deceased. Tali also added that his supporters were on the other side with the IRB personnel posted in the village. “They have not moved anywhere, IRB will be the living witnesses”, claims Tali.
Meanwhile, police say that the situation in Kantsung is still tense but under control. Two platoons of IRB are already in the village and another reached Tuli Town this evening to leave for Kantsung. CRPF personnel also arrived at Tuli tonight to take stock of the situation.
