Niuland town is among the newest townships in Nagaland to have an urban local body (ULB). Earlier, the town’s civic functions were managed by an ad hoc town council, only to be notified as a full-fledged ULB by the Nagaland government in 2019.
A year on, the recognition by the government was commemorated on November 27. Marking the occasion, a programme was conducted today in the town, with PHED Minister, Jacob Zhimomi and Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr Nicky Kire in attendance.
According to information received, Zhimomi, who represents 5 Ghaspani II under which Niuland falls, unveiled a monolith commemorating the government recognition. Coinciding with the programme, Niuland Town Council’s first sanitation truck was flagged off by Dr Kire.
It was added that Minister Zhimomi also installed street lighting all across the town.
