‘Fund for Dist HQs road improvement yet to be released’

KOHIMA, November 7 (NEPS): Nagaland Minister for Road and Bridges Mr Kaito said today that his department was making all out efforts for the improvement of the road conditions of all the 11 districts
headquarters in the State. Disclosing to NEPS here today, the Minister said technical estimates for these works had already been approved and the money was yet to be released.
As per the approved estimates, Kohima gets Rs 90 lakh; Dimapur gets Rs 90 lakh; Mokokchung gets Rs 70 lakh; Mon gets Rs 75 lakh; Wokha get Rs 70 lakh; Tuensang gets Rs 90 lakh; Longleng gets Rs 50 lakh; Zunheboto gets Rs 45 lakh; Kiphire gets Rs 50 lakh and Phek gets Rs 20 lakh but it (Phek) actually gets 70 lakh but being used for some other road development there.
The Minister further disclosed that the construction of roads to the above 11 districts headquarters would be done by his department. “I have already requested my colleagues to allow my department to directly do the job for this particular districts headquarters road development works.” Kaito said his department was trying its best for the improvement and proper maintenance of existing roads in the State.
“But we are finding difficulty to carry out due to the shortage of fund,” he added. “We are making all out efforts to maintain but it is near impossible for the department to take care of 12000 kilometer roads including portions of National Highways without the assistance of the Government of India.”
At the same time, being a Christian State, they had to consider cases of many approach roads like to Theological Colleges whenever such requests came up to them, the Minister also disclosed. Kaito also stated the state Governor Nikhil Kumar was also concerned for the paucity of fund for the maintenance of the huge roads in the state.
