G. Rio School, Punglwa Sainik School win at CBSE East Zone Cluster-1 Football Tourney

  DIGBOI, October 16 (MExN): G. Rio School, Kohima defeated Holy Cross School, Gangtok 1-0 in the final to lift the U-19 CBSE East Zone Cluster-1 Football Trophy held at the Jubilee ground, Digboi in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on October 16.G. Rio skipper Wanmei scored the winning goal. The team with 15 players was led by coaches Silvi Tepa and Selhu Chase.   G. Rio School on their way to the finals beat Royal Global School, Guwahati 3-1 in the first match, overcame NPS International School Guwahati 3-2 in the second round, beat Kaziranga English Academy School 3-2 via tiebreaker after the match ended 1-1 in the quarters and defeated Mont Fort School Guwahati 2-1 to enter the finals of the tournament.   Sainik School, Punglwa defeated Sainik School Guwalpara 3-1 to lift the title in the U-17 category.   The five-day tournament was organized by the Digboi Little Stars Senior School for under 17 and under 19 category. A total of 22 teams participated in the U-19 category, while 9 teams participated in the U-17 category. The competing schools came from Assam, Sikkim, Nagaland, and Manipur.   The two schools will represent the northeast states at the national level CBSE XIX Football Cluster to be held from October 4-8 at Vidya Global School, Meerut,Uttar Pradesh.
