Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): On the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, various events and activities were conducted across Nagaland on October 2.

NPCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Minority Department celebrated the day as ‘Sandesh Diwas’ at Congress Bhawan in Dimapur.

The programme began with the singing of National Anthem while invocation was pronounced by Ajit Gogoi, General Secretary (Admn) Minority Department. It was followed by a speech from Javed Sarwar, Vice-Chairman Minority Department who briefed the gathering on the history of Gandhi.

Rajesh Kr Sethi, Chairman of the Minority Department, NSUI President X Chopika Sumi, W Akum Yimchunger Vice President NPCC and V Lasuh, Chairman Kisan Cell also delivered speeches on the occasion.

K Therie, NPCC President shared the teachings and the non-violence propagated by Gandhi. In his speech, he also highlighted the current issues confronting the country.

Special song was presented by N K Naga while vote of thanks was delivered by Salikur Raja Khan, General Secretary Minority Department.

NPP: The Minority Cell (Non-Tribal) of the National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State along with the party’s State Women and Youth Wing organized a Swachh Bharat cleanliness drive on October 2.

The event was flagged off at 6:00 am by the NPP Nagaland State Executive Committee led by its President, Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema and other office bearers including State General Secretary (Org.), Mr. Limanuksung Ao, State Gen. Secy (IPR & Media), Mr. Tohovi Achumi.

All the members converged at the Thahekhu Village Gate area adjoining the IOCL Depot after which an invocation prayer was pronounced by Alemla, Vice President of the NPP State Women Wing. It was followed by words of encouragement by the State President and State General Secretary (IPR & Media). The cleanliness drive was undertaken from Thahekhu Village Gate junction till Sub-Urban Police Station junction, according to a press release from the NPP media cell.

Officials from State Women Wing included its President Yashila Ao, Working President Ruth Pochury and Vice President Alemla. 

The State Youth Wing officials included Jaser Meru, General Secretary (Org) and Heto Achumi, Vice President.
The State Minority Cell (Non-Tribal) officials included its President, Juel Acharjee, Vice President, Aryan Kar Purkayastha, General Secretary Ashim Kumar Das, Secretary (IPR), Santanu Biswas, Secretary, Sannu Subba, Secretary, Mahavira Sharma and Treasurer, Surojit Das. The President of Tuensang District Executive Committee, Longre Chang was also present during the event.

Brighter Academy School:  To mark the conclusion of the two-year long commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Eco Club of Brighter Academy School, 7th Mile Model Village, Dimapur, joined the rest of the Eco Clubs across the country to observe the Swachhta Fortnight and conducted several activities on October 1 and 2. 

As per the school’s report submitted to the State Nodal Agency for Eco Clubs (Nagaland Pollution Control Board), altogether three teachers and 20 students participated in the programme.

Robi Nayak, Teacher-in-charge, Eco– Club, highlighted the purpose of Swachh Bharat Mission after which the students were divided into mini-groups for sweeping and mopping of rooms, picking of wrappers, waste bottles and other plastics, toilet cleaning and drainage cleaning etc.

The school also reported that necessary safety protocols were followed during the course of the programme.

Pfutsero: The 14th Assam Rifles, Pfutsero along with the Pfutseromi Student’s Union held a programme on ‘Education on Progression’ at Pfutseromi Village Community Hall on October 2.

Resource person Maj Chakraveer Singh, 14th Assam Rifles, Pfutsero enlightened the gathering on the life of Gandhi as the father of the nation.

The programme was led by Rosemary Mero, General Secretary Pfutseromi Students Union. M Mero, VCC Pfutseromi delivered a welcome note and the vote of thanks was given by Zekozo Mero, VDB Secretary, Pfutseromi Village.
