'Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence relevant till today'

Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the joining of New Members at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur.  

NPCC President K Therie, addressing the gathering, said “world history has taught us that despite undergoing years of war, negotiations are the ultimate solution and this is where Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence is relevant till today.”  

According to a release from the party’s Media Cell, he stated that after reading the 213th Report of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, the Political Affairs Committee of NPCC appreciated the difficulties and realities of negotiation. However, he termed 21 years of negotiation with no solution as unreasonable.  

Therie, therefore said “Political solution is the first and foremost to open the gates to peace, freedom, development, growth of economy and opportunities.   Adding that Congress is an association of likeminded citizens for the welfare of people, he also feted leaders who recently joined the Congress Party.  

Also addressing the programme, Akavi N Zhimomi, former AAP candidate from Ghaspani-I who recently joined the Congress said Congress is the right party to address the issues confronting the Nagas as well as minorities and called for renewed support of the Congress which stands on the principles of secularism, equality and democracy to preserve democracy and maintain secularism in the nation.  

Also stressing that the younger generations have great hope upon the leaders in the state as well as upon Congress President Rahul Gandhi, he assured the commitment of the joining members to work together to strengthen the INC under the present leadership and give hope to the people.  

Greeting the gathering on the occasion, Capt GK Zhimomi, Gen Secy, NPCC said Gandhi is still relevant today because the ideas and philosophy he propagated are still relevant in today’s world scenario for the nation as well as the world.  

Zhimomi also asserted that there are many who would like to downplay the ideals of Gandhi by attempting to tarnish his image on social media and on different platforms.  

He also said that Swachh Bharat while being a good initiative towards cleanliness, a deeper cleanliness is the need of the hour and called on the gathering to rededicate to try and live by the ideas and teachings of Gandhi in political life.  

Welcoming the newcomers and home comers, Capt. Zhimomi expressed optimism that the party has begun its rise and also cautioned that communal forces posing a threat of wiping out the secular outlook of India which would put minorities in great danger.  

He called upon the gathering to join hands firmly in the fight to uphold secularism and to give their best to make Congress shine in Nagaland again.  

W Akum Yimchunger, Secretary NPCC and A Bendangyanger Ao, President, DCC, Dimapur also exhorted the gathering.
