Kohima, March 21 (MExN): Kohima Police manning inter-state check gate at Khuzama recovered 519 kilograms of contraband ganja worth Rs. 25,95,000/- in the national market on March 21, 4:00 am. A press release from PRO, Kohima Police informed that the contraband was found concealed inside a special compartment in a truck (NL-03A-2412) designed for transporting illegal items. In this connection, two persons identified as Suresh Kumar (25) and Karaiba (37), both from Manipur, were taken into police custody and a regular case vide Khuzama P.S Case No. 0011/2016 U/S 20 (b) (ii) (c) NDPS Act was registered against them for conducting further investigation.
Highway robbers arrested
In another incident on March 20, Kohima South Police Station personnel apprehended one person identified as A Sumi (34) for “extorting” from Manipur bound truck at Lerie junction in Kohima. According to the PRO, Kohima Police, the Kohima South PS received information around 6:30 am that some persons were extorting from Manipur bound truck at Lerie junction. Following that, personnel from the South Police Station rushed to the spot and apprehended A. Sumi. However, his accomplice fled from the scene, the release said. During further investigation, the absconding accomplice identified as M. Letro (26) was apprehended from the town on the same day, it added. In this connection, a criminal case has been registered at Kohima South PS Case No. 0010/2016 U/S 392/34 IPC against the two.
