KOHIMA (MExN): The Kohima Town GB’s finally has a Union Court located at Dakland. The union court was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion Rio stated that Kohima Town GB’s should be just and wise in their dealings and be a model for the rest to follow. “Being a large village others will imitate what we do. You should guide others by setting good examples” he said. Stating that GBs have a big identity with vast powers in their hands which are also recognized by the Government, Rio stressed upon the fact that they should uphold their immense responsibility. Further stressing on this, he said that they would gain the cooperation and respect of the people only through their proper dealings. “Respect cannot be demanded, it should be earned. Through giving proper justice you will gain the cooperation of the people but if you fail to do so, the people will loose heart in you” he said.
The CM also urged upon the GBs to uphold the trust and confidence of the people.
Rio said that some section of the people wants the government to pay remuneration to the GBs, but stated that paying remuneration to the latter would mean loss of traditional values and the uniqueness of the culture, and in time they would only be considered as another government employee.
Moreover, petty fights and disputes over the post would turn up and mar the sanctity of the GBs.
However, Rio assured that the government would look after the welfare fund and that the Commissioner office has already submitted a fix deposit, out of which the interest would be for the welfare fund, and added that the government would provide red blankets on yearly basis.
