Gen (Retd) Thinoselie is new NNC President

The Naga National Council (NNC) general meeting was held here today at National Prayer House, Yoruba village under Phek district.  

Zhopra Vero, convenor NNC Search Committee announced the approval of Gen. (Retd) Thinoselie M. Keyho as NNC president for the tenure 2016-2021. He informed that the NNC had its CEC meeting at Toulazouma, Dimapur on April 19, 2016 and constituted a search committee comprising himself as convenor with other six members namely Thepushuyi S. Keyho, Zapuvisie Lhousa, Senka Ao, T. Oren Lotha, P. Puthai Lam and T.V. Litsaba Sangtam.  

He said the Committee was entrusted with the responsibility of finding suitable persons who can hold the following posts (President- 1 post, vice president- 3 posts, general secretary- 1 post, joint secretary- 3 posts and advisor- 1 post) for a tenure of 5 years (2016-2021).  

He said that right after the constitution of the Committee, the members toured extensively throughout the Naga inhabited areas and held consultative meetings with the people.  

Vero said with the guiding principle, the Committee was able to finalize the names for approval in the NNC general meeting.  

After making the announcement, the gathering raised their hands as approval and administration of oath of allegiance to Gen (Retd) Thinoselie M. Keyho and others was done by Vekronu Dozo, Mayam Riyam.  

In his acceptance speech, Gen. (Retd) Thinoselie M. Keyho said he has “humbly accepted the highest post of the President of the Naga National Council which the respected members of the search committee has honored me and approved by the august house of the Naga National Council general meeting held on this day, the 11th May 2016 at Yoreba village.”  

“I have accepted it with humility, believing that together we can put the Naga National Council back to its right track. For Naga National Council is the only genuine and authentic political organization and National Institution of the Naga National Movement which has peoples’ mandate and therefore hold the key to final solution of the Indo-Naga political conflict,” he added.  

Further, Gen. (Retd) Keyho said the Naga National Council stands for solidarity of the Naga people, and sovereignty of the Nation.  

The NNC expressed also its profound gratitude to the Chakhesang Region for hosting the NNC general meeting 2016. It resolved to extend full support to the President and his Executive Councils towards revitalising, strengthening and pursuing the mandate of the Naga people as the “original political institution.”  

It also resolved that the NNC will continue to abide by and adhere to the principles of non-violence and mutual respect for realizing Naga national aspiration and reaffirmed to stand by the August 14 declaration of Naga Independence of 1947 and the May 16 Naga Plebiscite of 1951.  

Earlier, Brig. (Retd) S. Singnya, Kedahge, Federal Government of Nagaland and Zapuvisie Lhousa, member CEC, NNC delivered short speeches.  

The meeting was chaired by Senka Ao while Rev. Dr. V.K. Nuh pronounced blessing to the NNC executives. Vote of thanks was proposed by NNC Vice President Thepushuyi S. Keyho.  

The programme started with Bible reading and prayer by Rev. Pukrolhu Lohe. Prayer Warriors, National Prayer House Yoruba and Suthozu Nagwu village presented special song and indigenous tune respectively. The meet concluded with a mass prayer.
