In view of the need of new, updated and reliable machines and the increased demand for analyzing various rocks and minerals, the State Directorate of Geology and Mining (DGM) procured a WD-XRF machine and some accessories like the vibratory cup mill, pulverizer and the core splitter.
This was purchased with financial aid from the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), New Delhi and was inaugurated by Commissioner and Secretary, Geology and Mining Department, John Kevi Angami on August 30 at the directorate’s Chemical laboratory.
According to department officials, the WD-XRF (Wavelength Dispersive-X-Ray Fluorescence) machine is a highly advanced, automated, X-ray instrument used to determine the elemental composition of rocks, minerals and sediments. It works on wavelength dispersive spectroscopic principles and is becoming the most widely used machine all over the world. It is the first of its kind in the whole of North East Directorates of Geology and Mining.
