Get into the IT groove, Imkong tells students

DIMAPUR, JAN 31 (MExN): The reception of a VIP couln’t be grander than was accorded to Leader of Opposition and MLA I Imkong by the Khar villagers, with dancing warriors leading the Chief Guest and his entourage accompanied by the beating of the Log Drum, on the occasion of the Inauguration of the Khar Students’ Union Library Hall.

“It is good to be back at my political birth place” began I Imkong, the Chief Guest. ‘While pursuing education, students should keep in mind that the world is now all about Information Technology. Be equipped with it to be a part of the Knowledge Based Industry. Khar village has produced an IPS and IAS officers along with three heads of department without a Library but now that you have one, I am optimistic, there will be more’, echoed the legislator. Recently, the UPA Government has approved a Scheme for Rural Household Employment by targeting 200 districts of the country where one district has been allotted for Nagaland which will be Mon district and we are planning to cover the whole of Nagaland with the same Scheme, said Imkong. 

Another sincere implementation is women’s empowerment where even a woman Gaon Bora has been instated in Dimapur, but there have been reluctance from the menfolk to accept the fact that women breaking the barriers to make history in the world. He appealed to the Khar menfold to disassociate from blocking women empowerment and urged the womenfolk to voice their rights. Then there is the implementation for the ‘Right to Information’ of the public, in the administration, in order to curb the rampant corruption. Lastly, Imkong encouraged the people to adapt themselves with the ever changing world with a broader horizon and that most hopefully  the road from Imchenkimong to Changki would be constructed in a National Highwaystatus.

MLAs Nungsangyapang and Supongmeren and Ex-MLA Shami Angh, accompanying the Leader of Opposition, delivered short speeches on behalf of the entourage,  which included NPCC Vice-President.Ayang Aonok and the DCCI team led by the President I Nungkum Jamir.

MLA Nungsangyapang remarked that life being short, a student should let education be the priority. To the gathering, he said DAN government was formed by a regional party with a small scope and so are disillusioned. Supongmeren, MLA said  that even though they (Congress) are in the opposition, no development has been denied in the district. Shami Angh, Ex-MLA, told the student community that they being the salt of the village urged the people to do away with jealousy which was eating away the society. He reiterated that, a regional party would never bear ripened fruit like the DAN because ‘they swim in a small pond’.

Earlier, the women folk of Khar village presented a cultural folk song in honour of the Chief Guest. Thereafter, the President of the Khar Students’ Union thanked Imkong for making their long cherished dream come true. It was in the year 1997, during the Union’s Golden Jubilee, wherein Imkong committed to build the new hall and thus the students were grateful for keeping the promise.
