Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): Ghaspani-II 5th NPF has sounded a distress call to the state government and the district administration to immediately intervene and contain the factional clashes in Medziphema area, particularly in Kuki villages. The frequent gunfights between the two underground factions of the NSCN are resulting in heavy injuries to innocent civilians, damage to properties and causing insecurity and fear amongst the populace, the NPF stated in a note issued y its president Kometo Kehie.
The NPF observed that in spite of several clashes taking place particularly at Medziphema town, Bungsang village and Sirhima village till April 16, the district administration and government machineries had failed to take measures to instill confidence and security to the lives and properties of the innocent villagers, the unit lamented. “The constant presence and movement of the underground factions in the area with heavy build-up up reinforcements whereby a big showdown at any time is looming large, as such the innocent citizens have been under trauma and fear psychosis” the note reminded.
Till date heavy collateral damage has been caused to the properties of the affected villagers but unfortunately, no emergent relief from the government or the district administration is yet to be received. The Ghaspani NPF has run out of resources to meet emergency requirements to the affected people in spite of their best efforts, it stated.
In view of these situations, the unit has made an urgent appeal to inspect the ground realities, assess the damage costs and rescue the people from their hardships before their patience runs out. “Although the undesirable development in the area is well known to everyone, unacceptable excuses in the delay of taking timely measures with further consequently effects the people, the responsibility of which shall be borne by the concerned authority” it cautioned.
