Ghokuto and Viheto villages remain cut off due to landslides

Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Ghokuto and Viheto villages under Ato area remain cut off as the only life line to the two villages was severely affected by a massive landslide that occurred between Nihokhu Township and Ghokuto village on August 27 last.  

Informing this Shikavi Zhimomi in a press release said incessant rain triggered the landslide on the only road that connect the two villages to EAC headquarter Nihokhu. He said it was impossible for vehicles to ply on the road as road have been blocked with mud that slide down from above the road while in some places the road have sunken down several meters.  

The chief of Ghokuto village said the road was constructed in 2012 under PMGSY however till date no proper maintenance has been witnessed since then. Villages have been maintaining the road on their own by deploying villagers and funds managed by the village council, he added. On behalf of the effected people of the villages, Shikavi has appealed to the concerned department and the government to extend all possible assistance under any scheme deem fit to repair the road.
