GHS Yangphi: School with a ‘ghost’ HM

Kiphire, August 3 (MExN): A students’ organization in Kiphire district, United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC), on Wednesday paid a visit to various schools in the town and interacted with school authorities. The visit threw up huge surprises: Yangphi Government High School is functioning supposedly with a Head Master and an Asst. Head Master – but the school’s teaching faculty has no idea who they are or even their names!

Sharing their grievances, the faculty of GHS Yangphi disclosed that even they ‘don’t even know the name of the head master and assistant head master though they are posted here as they don’t even maintain the attendance records and they are not attending their duties’.

The faculty members admitted that there is ‘no sign of improvement in the school infrastructure and students have been underground difficulties. In fact, it is found, ‘weather determines the normal functioning of the classes.’ Sometimes classes have to be cancelled when it rains,’ a teacher said.

A leader of the USSC, Levi, said that in spite of innovative ideas and ‘huge funds being poured in to improve the standard of education government schools, Kiphire needs more attention.’  The USSC leader expressed dismay that officers are neglecting their duties and has assured to take up the matter with the authorities.

‘Some higher institutions in the town are running without proper teaching faculties which the conference sees seriously and we have asked the authorities to post the right persons for the right job so that the career of the students are not hampered,’ Levi said.
